Day Wise Trip Itinerary
TEA FACTORY – Ooty Tea Factory is situated at the height of 1839 meters in the Nilgiris hills, around 4 kilometres from the centre of the city. The complete factory is established in the area of 1 acre. There is a tea museum, where we can know how the tea is processed using the Cut, Twist, and Curl method. Along with this, we can learn the history and the evolution of Tea. Let’s start with knowing the history of tea, which we got to know when we visited the Tea Factory as everything was framed.
WAX MUSEUM – The Wax World contains beautiful statues of Indian freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale among many others. The museum also has wonderful replicas of social figures like Mother Teresa and our former President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
BOTANICAL GARDEN – Spread over an area of 55 acres, the Government Botanical Gardens is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after tourist attractions not just in Ooty but in the entire Tamil Nadu. No tourist will leave Ooty without a visit to the well organized, well maintained botanical gardens. It is a famous sightseeing place to visit in Ooty. Maintained by the Horticultural Department of Tamil Nadu, the present-day Botanical Gardens is divided into 5 sections.
ROSE GARDEN – The pride of Ooty lies in the Rose Garden, which belongs to an elite club of 35 rose gardens around the world which has won the Garden of Excellence Award for South Asia from the World Federation of Rose Societies. Containing more than twenty thousand varieties of roses, the Rose Garden is one of the most beautiful and well maintained gardens you find in the country, or perhaps, the world. The climate of Ooty is ideal for the plants to have a long blooming season.
OOTY LAKE BOAT HOUSE – Originally constructed for the purpose of fishing, the lake has become all but an important tourist landmark in Ooty. An evening cycling around the lake (cycles are available for rent), or a quiet morning with your beloved by your side and the lake in front is enough to bring calm to yourself. Originally extending to a much larger area, Ooty Lake has shrunk in size over the years giving way to other structures like the race course.
After the early breakfast we will proceed for Pykara day trip.
PINE TREE FOREST – the Pine Tree Forests boasts of a good collection of orderly planted pine trees, which ranges from 3 meters to 80 meters in height. Overlooking the Sandy Nulla Lake, the most abundant species of the pine trees that exist here are the Siberian Dwarf, Ponderosa and Potosi Pinyon. While a few of the trees are about to cross 1000 years of age, most of them are already 4000 years old.
KAMARAJ SAGAR DAM – The Kamraj Sagar dam is also often visited by nature study groups because of the different variety of flora and fauna that you find here and that too, up close. The place has emerged as one of the favourite picnic spots even for the local people. But please don’t go there if you are planning to spend a quiet evening with your family. This place is one of the most frequented places by the tourists due to the ease of accessibility of the place from Ooty.
TREE PARK – This is an exclusive garden of trees. The trees are from various countries across the continents. People interested in trees would have good time here. The place is relatively small to Botanical Garden however maintained very well.
WENLOCK DOWNS – This place is a wonderful hangout for the golf enthusiasts. Wouldn’t qualify as a ‘must see’ place, when you compare it with the natural beauty of other surrounding places, but this is a totally different type of terrain from the Ghats that you see in Ooty. It certainly qualifies as an experience of a lifetime for those who like to go on long peaceful walks and contemplate about ‘life’ and the higher entities of nature. The sight of sheep grazing and the endless stretches of grass are sure to give you a lift if you are troubled due to some reason.
PYKARA BOAT HOUSE -Rising from the Mukurthi peak, north of Ooty, the Pykara River gives birth to a series of fine waterfalls and the large Pykara Lake. While the drive towards the lake is an idyllic experience in itself, the boating inside is no less joyful. Situated amidst a lush green shola forest, Pykara Lake is formed as a result of the dam and power plant constructed on the river. A few hundred meters north of the lake, the river tumbles down the rocks to form the famed Pykara Falls. The Boat Club (or Boat House, as popularly called) in the vicinity, adds to the charm of this little panoramic tourist complex among the hills.
PYKARA WATERFALLS – Originating in the Mukurthi peak, Pykara River and the waterfalls the river produces is one of the most beautiful and majestic sights that you will get to see in Ooty. Located 20 kms away from Ooty in the Ooty-Mysore Road, the Pykara lake has been developed into a thoroughly enjoyable picnic spot by the addition of a boat house and restaurant.
NEEDLE VIEW HILLPOINT – is hidden away from public view and not frequented too much by tourists. Located on the Ooty-Mysore route in a place called Gudalur, what awaits the lone trekker is a sight that mesmerizes you beyond imagination. Needle view hill point or Soochimalai is a place where you can literally “reach for the clouds”. The peak and the clouds are at par and during the rare occasion when they separate you can see small villages, dotted among vast stretches of forests, in a distance.
At appropriate time dropping to Airport/Bus stand with blasting memories of the Ooty.
